Viva Las Vegas
As a young man I remember taking that long drive into Las Vegas. The trip itself was an adventure, full of mystery and had my stomach turning. I would relate the feeling of going to Vegas the first few times to that of a little kid going to Disneyland. Excited, yet anxious, a whole lot of nerves, and some fear. Nervousness and fear were two feelings that I could not let my friends know that I was having. I was supposed to be a man, and even more than that I was supposed to be this young pimp that wasn't afraid of shit. At that time in our life it was go hard or go home. We were already too deep into the game and Vegas was the top spot for a pimp to embark on. Just to tell our peers that we pimped in Vegas was going to set us on a higher level. Las Vegas, in my opinion, is the largest hub of prostitution in this country. Every type of prostitute is easily accessible to anybody in the city. Everything from strip clubs, brothels, tracks, escorts, you name it, it’s there. We were definitely not going to stay at home on our city tracks that all of the other emerging pimps were on. We were constantly in competition with our pimp peers, and even our peers that were not pimps. We may not have realized it at the time but indeed we were.
I remember the first time I came to Las Vegas as a young adult without my family. I was eighteen. At this point I had already been involved in the game for a little over a year. My eyes were now aware of what a prostitute looked like, how she moved, and how she talked. My friends and I entered our first casino on the trip, I remember my first thought being, “Wow, is every girl in here a hoe?” This may sound extreme, but the reality wasn’t far off. For the first time my eyes were opened to the reality of what was going on around me. I knew that every woman in that casino wasn’t a prostitute, but for every ten women I saw, at least six of them were prostitutes. That day will remain with me forever.
In my opinion the prostitutes that worked in Vegas casinos were the top of the line. They dressed better than most prostitutes, their hair and makeup was always done, and they were way more charismatic. The more I got to know the scene, my pimp friends and I realized that the casinos were where pimps only brought their best girls. Normal girls didn't do well in the casino and it was a waste of time to have them there. Another thing that I learned fast was that even if the prostitute was gorgeous, if she couldn't communicate well with people, she wouldn’t make good money.
Since that day I’ve returned to Vegas several times, each time witnessing the same thing.
